April is not just a month filled with holiday spirit, rain showers and candy peeps; It's also a time to spread awareness about helping the environment.
This Friday, April 22, is Earth Day. According to the Earth Day Network, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.
Whether you are looking to use that recycling bin a bit more, or want to try your hand in gardening, here are a few simple ways you can celebrate the world this Friday, and every day!
1. Turn off the lights when you leave a room! Making sure to turn off the lights when you leave a room will help conserve electricity and save the planet.
2. When the weather is appropriate in New England, consider riding your bike or walking! Leaving the car at home will aid in decreasing the amount of pollution put into the air.
3. Looking to eat healthier and save the planet? Try growing your own garden at home!
4. Choose to live by the 3 R's; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Always think before you throw away something in the trash. Be sure to put aluminum cans, paper, newspaper, etc. in the recycling bin! Also, there are many other "unknown" items that should be recycled. Old computers can be recycled too. Check out www.Earth911.org to find a list of computer donation centers in your area.
5. We have all been guilty of taking an overly long shower or leaving the water running while brushing our teeth. However, it is important to make a conscious effort every day to conserve water. Also, make sure to turn the faucet off all the way when you're finished. Lastly, consider installing a low-flow showerhead to cut down on the amount of water coming out when you shower.
What are some of your favorite ways to go green and stay that way? Tell us in the comments.
